Give your students the mineral that writes. Don't go looking for lead in pencil "leads" - it's all graphite (with some clay mixed in.) You will get a package of about one pound of graphite perfect for giving students a chance to write with a mineral. Teaches about useful minerals and the hardness scale (graphite is 1-2 on Moh's hardness scale). A fun, hands-on way to explore earth science. These samples are just the way they come out of the ground and may contain some rock matrix. Depending on availability, you may get one or two large pieces, or many smaller pieces. It can be easily broken into smaller samples with a hammer. (Don't forget the safety glasses when breaking.)
