Product Info

How often can you mix chemistry with geology? "Popcorn Rock" is a naturally occurring rock mined in the Great Basin of the western US. Simply place the 2-3 inch rock in a bowl of vinegar and watch the popcorn-like aragonite crystals grow over the next 1-2 weeks. Our popcorn rock in the photo shows 10 days of crystal growth. No, you can't eat it - it's rock, silly. Great for charting and observing over time, as well a nice demo for the study of chemistry and rocks & minerals.

The first time I bought a popcorn rock for my son, it cost be $5.95 at the science museum. Here it cost under $3.00! I was so pleased, I bought two.
