Product Info

The ultimate classroom test tube! These "preform" test tubes are the early stage of a plastic soda bottle. They are virtually indestructible, dishwasher safe, and they are clear to let young scientists see everything that is going on inside. These are also often used in geocache applications. Caps are included, and they are available in packs of 5, 15, or 30. Each preform test tube measures approx. 11 cm long x 2.5 cm in diameter (~4.3 in. x 1 in.), and holds about 25 cc (~0.84 fluid oz). Cap color may vary.

Simply fill one of our test tubes about a quarter full of water, add a few drops of food coloring, and fill the tube up to the collar with cooking oil. Now drop a piece of a fizzing tablet, such as Alka-Seltzer into the tube. The bubbles will lift the colored water and move them around like your own personal lava lamp! Add another tablet piece to keep it going.

  1. not just for science

we use these for geocaching containers and find them excellent for this as they are easily slipped into small spaces, are watertight and are easily camouflaged. Plus the price makes them an easy choice as well.

  2. Perfect for science classrooms

We use these all the time for holding small amounts of liquids and solids during our science activities. I also used them for holding invitations for a science-themed birthday party for my daughter. Thanks for making these available and affordable.

  3. Great for Geocaching!

The soda preform is an excellent waterproof and durable geocache container. It's nice to find them so cheap.
